Graphic Translation

Graphic Translation

The first project is a Graphic Translation of a chosen animal. We explored through sketches six basic elements of graphic design. We used geometry, line, gesture, silhouette, shading, and minimal. We had to discover the small details of our animals and figure out how much and how little we could show of them and have it still be recognizable. I chose a raccoon. I focused on the raccoons most distinct identifiers, the tail and mask.

Grid

Grid

This project is a rhythmic grid. Restricted to a 9” x 9” square broken up into a 3x3 grid, we could only use rectangles that stopped at one of the grid lines. Medium: Bristol board and Sharpie

For the second half, we applied the same restrictions but we had to use pieces from magazines.

Geometric Characters

Geometric Characters

This project is a character design in which we could only use pure geometry and construction paper. Using shape both positive and negative, allowed endless possibilities.
